M. Halley finds a fault with the WT945

Even with an overall positive review at Unbeatable, contributor M. Halley has found a fault with his Miele WT945 Washer Dryer.

“A brilliant washing machine let down by a silly design fault in the drier fan (blades too close together) causing it to block with fluff in spite of regular ‘defluffing cycles’.”

The problem is seemingly exacerbated by drying towels, something that is frustrating M. Halley, who on a yearly basis takes the matter into his own hands by lifting away the heater box and removing the collected fluff. And although he refers to it as a minor problem it has become a source of irritation.

Has anyone else had a similiar experience with the WT945, if so let us know what action you took?

  • I agree entirely, and thanks to M. Halley for the very good guidance on the cleanout procedure for the fan. I tried this successfully last week after a year of regularly taking the top off and ‘unsticking’ the fan motor by hand – a temporary fix at best. I should add, however, that my WT945 is 10 years old.

The only worry is the amount of accumulated fluff that isn’t accessible by picking away from the dryer fan outlet, and that would need a full disassembly of the fan box to clear out. A very friendly Miele technician (who I had called out to the machine on a completely different job) was happy to share information on how to do this, but he described it as ‘the worst job on the machine’ as the connection between the fan box and the drum is horribly inaccessible. I’m about to post a fuller description on fixya.com for those interested.

An annoying weak spot in a very impressive machine.
