Cathrin has a problem with bagless vacuums
Cathrin at Digital Spy suffers from allergies and therefore is a little sceptical about having to empty a bagless vacuum. As Fear_Factor calls it, ‘the dust-face’ could be a problem.
The response from the community members has seen quite a few recommendations for Miele when it comes to a vacuum with a bag. DEmmerson and Norbitonite both agree Miele is the way to go and mention the sliding shut off the bags have to stop dust escaping during the changing of bags. It is this that seems to have won over Cathrin,
“Ah, I like the sound of that sliding shutoff thing!
Guess I’ll have to save up for a Miele then. I know they’re pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for!
Thanks again for the replies.

Brief encounters – Miele Hepa 5280 vacuum cleaner review
“This is undoubtedly the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned” opens Azana in her review of the Miele Hepa 5280 over on Dooyoo.
Having owned several other brands in the past and most recently a Dyson, she took the now well-travelled path of reading online reviews including Which? before making her purchase and she’s not been disappointed during the first six months of use: “Easy to manouvere, quiet and quite simply does the job beautifully” is how she describes ownership, highlighting the Hepa’s ‘quiet’ setting as ideal for vacuuming without waking the rest of the house.
With the three attachments housed in the body of the machine and a generous ten metre power cord, the 5280 “glides beautifully” her only “slight criticism” being “the bag change indicator is rather erratic”. Despite this little niggle she calls it “a pleasure to vacuum with this machine, as much as such a menial everyday task can be, anyway” and “really does live up to the hype”.
Concluding her testimonial by thinking of the day she ultimately has to replace the 5280 she comments that it will “definately be another Miele”. Pop over to Dooyoo and read her review in full.
“Does anything outperform Miele?”
Over at the Fool.co.uk messageboards, Dyson owner alex812 is “thinking of lashing out on something else and see that Miele comes out well in reviews”. He’s looking at a S4511 and wants to know if it will it “outperform (a) an old Dyson DC01 and (b) a modern Dyson?”
Howyoodoin immediately answers the question “Does anything outperform Miele?” with a simple no, before going on the quote this month’s Which? magazine in which four out of the top five vacuums were made by Miele. Erstwhile Dyson owner publicimage also swapped their Dyson for a Cat & Dog, while lorodue also recommends Miele on the grounds that “if you have significant allergens hanging around (pets, or fine particulates if you live near a busy road, etc) then get one with a HEPA filter…Nothing else matches up.”
All of which sways alex812 to reply: “Thanks all – Miele it is then.” To check out the conversation in full, jump over to the Fool.co.uk messageboards.
New vacuum cleaner: Top of the range or not?
As with many savvy shoppers these days, greasysprout over at the Fool.co.uk message boards did a spot of online research before deciding on a new vacuum.
Following recommendations from other owners he decided to go for a Miele and after a Saturday going round the shops ended up more confused than before over which model to buy. It seems the shop assistants he spoke to couldn’t tell him what he was getting for his money and wants to know whether it’s “…worth paying more for a top of the range model or not?”
Omegamale advises that “One of the features that puts the price up the higher end models is an allergen filter. If you have an Asthmatic in the household then this is worth the expense. If not, then a lower end model should suffice.” while Alyourpal suggests the more basic Cat & Dog describing it as “…ace”. Cleo 2002 suggests the S5211 she purchased about three years ago and while calling it “…basic in comparison with some other models it is good for our requirements” it more than “…coped with cleaning up after a bathroom installation.”
What would you suggest to greasysprout? Is it a case of horses for courses? Why not drop by the Fool boards and have your say.
A good vacuum for allergy sufferers?
Happy_Chappy has decided that the time has come for a new vacuum cleaner and he’s asking for recommendations over at Digital Spy. He prefers a cylinder model to an upright and he’d like it to have “a good allergen filter”.
After several suggestions StressMonkey strongly recommends the Miele Hepa 5280 – “without a doubt the best vacuum I’ve ever had by a very long way”. He’s also had experience of using his mother’s Dyson and when comparing the two states: “Miele wins hands down”. He praises the Hepa for being “Powerful, light, [and] compact” as well as tidying away easily, having useful attachments, an adjustable hose plus making “short work of pet hair”. He likes it so much that he (almost) vacuums for fun!
Happy_Chappy is also considering the Miele S4281 as it “came top for Which? best buy” and has many good reviews after which msjj also chips in, mentioning: “I have a Miele I swear by, rather than at”. Head over to read the full thread, and let Happy_Chappy know what you think.
