New vacuum wanted: Preferably of the bagged variety
Over at the Mumsnet discussion forums eltham knows what she wants and that’s a new vacuum, so she’s given the members of the community a fairly open brief as long as it’s of the bagged variety.
SammyC, Andthentherewerethree and HeadFairy all lead the conversation with their recommendations for Henry as it “really gets rid of cat hairs!” a statement that luvlydECMOrations counters with a vote for the Miele and “we have the cat and dog version and its great”. Snoringnightmare says she can’t vouch for a Henry, but as a former Dyson owner that “weren’t that great” advocates “Miele all the way from now on”.
However it’s SleighGirl who rounds off the discussion having just treated herself to “a limited edition special offer one today “Red Pearl” for £170 which include a 5 year guarantee” and thinks “Miele are great”.

Best vacuum to replace an old Vax?
The good folks over at DVD Forums have come to the aid of d.boyd1uk whose Vax cleaner of fifteen years is nearing the end of its life. Having looked at both Dyson and Miele he’s none the wiser over which is best for him so used the power of the community’s combined knowledge for the answer.
Simion_levi casts the first vote for Miele, but it’s Ianlash who quotes a Which? review of “99 different vacuum cleaners, and Miele have 5 in the top 6″, while IAmATeaf comments that he “never thought I’d ever rave about a vacuum cleaner”, but having replaced his Samsung with a Miele he found it “in a different league in all areas, the build quality, it’s sucking power, how easy it is to drag around and how it compacts the bag.” Vast_girth, kez, JamesK and ROne too each give Miele the ‘thumbs-up’.
With almost twice as many Miele recommendations compared to the other brands, the vote is unanimous. All that remains now is for d.boyd1uk to make his decision. Pop over to the forum to follow the rest of the conversation.
British expats sing Miele’s praises
It’s not just the PG Tips and HP Sauce British expats miss… But luckily, according to the britishexpats.com forum, it seems that Miele vacuums are at least available in Canada. A fact confirmed when fledermaus asks:” What vacuum cleaner would you recommend?”.
And while Sebo don’t seem to have made the long trek into the wider Canadian market; here’s fledermaus again, – “So it looks like forking out some money for a Sebo or a Miele. I’ve seen Miele in the shops so that brand is looking like the winner depending on price”, Miele obviously have – and are making a good impression too it would seem.
“Miele are fantastic! My parents have sworn by them for decades” says AlexINBC, and although G586 is not quite so sure, suggesting that “nothing will make him swap from his beloved Henry” even though he “used a Miele on holiday recently and it was ok with a very strange variable suck going on”.
Of course, a number of users have commented on the Miele price being fairly high, but as Linda P says “We bought a Miele after a year struggling with a crap Bissell thing. I love the Miele, expensive, cost $750, but I think worth it”. Oh, and a tip from PhilandRegina in Ontario for any Canadians out there; “MIELE is the only way to go, quiet, good sucking power and does the job. Price ranges are medium, but worth it. You can get them at The Bay”.

Bagged or Bagless? – The debate continues…
After his old vacuum drew its final breath and sucked up its last strand of pet hair, Jon Frost at Overclockers UK is looking to buy a new cleaner. Although he’s got his eye on a Dyson he’s also asked for suggestions for something that is “robust” and “liable not to break”.
While Bissells, Electroluxs and Panasonics all receive their share of recommendations, along with vehement support for Henry’s, Miele vacuums are suggested immediately as the one to go for with Wiggins and [FnG]magnolia both recommending them ahead of Jon’s preferred choice even though they’re bagged cleaners.
The bagged vs bagless debate – a topic we also cover frequently on Forever Better – then continues as Overclockers members share their thoughts on the subject. If you’ve got a preference for one over the other and can help Jon out, hop over to the forum and have your say.
Vacuum recommendations: Strong suction on cat hair
At the Overclockers UK Forum, HAz has reported that the time has come to replace his Dyson and wants recommendations for a new vacuum.
He makes the point that the new cleaner “…must be strong and have good suction” which leads to a multitude of suggestions from fellow Overclockers, including several recommendations for Miele. Following HAz’s rejection of ‘Henry the Hoover’, Rocklobster writes “If you don’t want a Henry get a Miele”, while Psymonkee recommends the Miele Cat & Dog due to HAz’s need to clean up after his feline companion. Gumbald chips in to say “Everyone normally says get a Miele in these threads” while radderfire agrees with him, recommending Miele as one of the brands he’d look to as “I normally trust the Germans to make something decent”.
If you’re a Miele vacuum owner now’s the time to let the world know. Head over to Overclockers UK and share your knowledge with HAz.
