Shake, rattle and roll

Posted by Simon  1 August 2008

Diyiamnot is suffering from the shakes. Not personally mind you, but that of his kitchen floor after the installation of a new washing machine to crown his new kitchen. And it’s not just the vibrations that are driving him crazy, it’s the noise too.

Concerned that all the recent hardwork is going to fall down around his ears, he’s turned to the gurus at the DIYnot Forum for advice. After suggestions of making sure to remove the shipping bolts - which he’s done - attention turns towards the build quality of washing machines. While in diyiamnot’s case he’s happy with his new AEG washer, alanbrown1607 who also bought an AEG found it “…literally shook the house to pieces [which an] engineer tried in vain to cure…”. He ultimately “…paid a little extra for a lower spec Miele, much better machine although still some vibration at full steam”.

If you’ve got a tale to tell about a particularly mobile washing machine or can cure diyimanot’s problem, jump over to the forum and get involved.

Brief encounters - Miele WT2670 washer dryer review part 3

Posted by Simon  18 July 2008

We’ve posted two previous reviews of the Miele WT2670 Washer Dryer from the Review Centre on Forever Better and can now bring you a third courtesy of eosman who’s contributed the most detailed write-up to date.

Awarding the WT2670 full marks for ease of use and durability, 9/10 for Service and Overall Value and 8/10 for Style, eosman - who’s only had the machine for a few days - has been sufficiently impressed by its ease of use and versatility, coping “…very well with 3 months unwashed clothing and more within the last 5 days since we received it…” and build quality to express his thoughts so early on. His only concern so far is that “…clothes also tend not to dry completely at times…”, but does admit that it “…may mean a wrong programme was in use, or the drum is overloaded.”

Brief encounters - Miele W864 washing machine review

Posted by Matt  7 July 2008

A review of the Miele W864 has been posted on WasherHelp, a site dedicated to information on UK washing machines by Andy, an engineer with 30 years of experience. It’s a very detailed review, concluding that the Miele W864 is the “Rolls Royce of washing machines”.

As the review is by an engineer, it’s more technically focused than performance based. It begins with a paragraph on the fact that Miele use a stainless steel outer tub, rather than vitreous enamel (”strong, but susceptible to rust”) or plastic tubs which can be damaged by coins left in pockets. Therefore “stainless steel outer tubs are the ideal answer”, according to Andy. He’s also impressed by the strong door that has been “tested to be opened and swung shut 60,000 times”, as most non-Miele machines are tested for less than half that number.

Andy notes that independent engineers may struggle to obtain parts and information for Miele machines, so Miele’s own engineers are the best option if any repairs are needed, though “Miele currently have really long guarantees that reflect their confidence in the quality”. Brief encounters - Miele S5210 vacuum cleaner review part 3

Posted by Simon  29 May 2008

In the third installment of the S5210 vacuum review over at the Review Centre ryry87 has written the most comprehensive evaluation to date, following the two earlier reviews provided by kash gadhia and jacqueline2681.

Having now owned an S5210 for over a year Ryry87 gives it the Review Centre ‘thumbs-up’ and a full ten-out-of-ten and highlights the suction, looks, quality, lack of noise and value as killer-features. The only minor niggles being the expense of replacement bags and filters and the length of the hose.

Ryry 87 concludes by describing the S5210 as “…one of the best vacuums I have ever tested…the build quality and 20-year reliability is better than Hoover or Dyson could ever dream of…”.

Sorting out the laundry room

Posted by Simon  16 May 2008

Westcountrypottery at the eBay.co.uk messageboard wants to clear out all the junk from her laundry room and use it for its intended purpose. So she’s asked for thoughts on what should be included in the way of appliances and other paraphernalia.

Brainless is quick to suggest Miele or Maytag if she had the space, but it’s ivvie who gives a first-hand Miele recommendation. The proud owner of a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher, she admits that although they’re expensive they’re “…really well built” and come with “…long guarantees”. She really loves the express wash feature of the washing machine which “…uses only a much water as needed” and the tumble dryer which “…finishes as soon as the clothes are dry too - very clever.”

What would be your suggestions for the ideal laundry room? Why not share your thoughts with the other eBayers.

Bombproof and built like tanks…

Posted by Simon  8 May 2008

Miele and their reputation for build quality and durability are once again the main recommendation for the best appliances, this time over at AV Forums.

Member $lim$hady is yet another potential new washing machine buyer and has asked for suggestions on what machine to go for. While he’s the first to admit it, nheather’s policy of buying cheap machines and treating them as disposable is not the least bit environmentally friendly and although he’s never owned one, does consider Miele to be one of the best. However, it’s Alan_W and Oddbodd who provide the best testimonials each describing their own Miele’s as ‘bombproof’ and ‘built like tanks”.

If you want to read more about their experience of owning a Miele, jump over to the forum.

At your age you won’t need another…

Posted by Simon  24 April 2008

Once again Miele’s reputation for longevity resulted in this macabre suggestion made by mojo1’s mother when discussing purchasing a new machine with the famous ten-year guarantee.

This time Sheffield Forum member SimonS is in the market for a new washer and mojo1 has passed on those words of wisdom in the form of a Miele recommendation. Boyfriday’s less foreboding testimonial of “…fantastic and sooo quiet!” is more reassuring, while Strix also suggests Miele for their cast iron drum and build quality.

The debate continues however over whether a combined washer-dryer or separate appliances are the way to go. Save space or full-load tumble drying? What would you suggest? Jump into the conversation and have your say.

Best Miele machine for the average user?

Posted by Simon  14 April 2008

Money Saving Expert member Globalds’ current washing machine is on its last legs and he’s looking for a replacement.

Although not a heavy user, he’s still looking for a machine which will be used on most days and can handle the laundry of four people. Sponge recommends the W4446 WPS he purchased last year with a ten-year warranty, calling it the “best machine I’ve ever owned”, while sandran recommends the Prestige Plus W525 which he describes as ‘…fantastically quiet” with “…great programmes for my family of four”.

Taff007 further recommends the W3470 admitting that whatever Miele model is bought the “…quality is obvious” and will “…easily put up with the daily grind”.

If you’ve got any suggestions for Globalds, join in the conversation and have your say.

Brief encounters - Miele S5210 vacuum cleaner review

Posted by Simon  8 April 2008

jacqueline2681 has recently reviewed the S5210 for the Review Centre and concluded that the vacuum is “…top quality”.

She gives the S5210 full marks across all categories: ease of use, durability, service and support, style, value for money and overall value and is very impressed not just by the vacuum itself, but the quality of the hoses and tools which she describes as “…not plastic rubbish”.

She estimates that even when using the machine everyday she gets a good month out of each vacuum bag and has found eBay a good source of inexpensive replacements.

Yet another ‘thumbs-up’ for Miele so read the rest of her review in full and let her know what you think.

Brief encounters - Miele WT2670 washer dryer review

Posted by Simon  7 April 2008

In the second of our brief encounters reviews, sideshow bob from the Review Centre has posted his thoughts on the WT2670 washer dryer after twelve months use.

Despite using it three times a week he describes the machine as “…still running like new” and provides “excellent washing and drying results”. He’s also impressed by the build quality and the basic five-year parts and labour warranty which can extended to ten years by simply returning the warranty card to Miele.

Comparing the WT2670 to his previous Hotpoint and Hoover appliances he describes the Miele as “…simply outstanding” and gives it the Review Centre ‘thumbs-up’.
