Best vacuum for pet hair?

Discussion on the best vacuum for pet hair has been taking place on Money Saving Expert since dannyjebb asked for recommendations. He’s having problems coping with the cat hair his two Maine Coons are producing.

Jay Tee jumps straight in and suggests the Miele Cat and Dog,

“I replaced my upright [model] with a Miele Cat and Dog, really worth the extra [money]. Only downside is that you have to buy bags, but it’s better built and the performance is brilliant and it’s the least noisy vacuum I’ve owned.”

He also mentions the option to extend the warranty to 10 years. In regard to the Cat and Dog pinksleepybear concurs,

“I agree with Jay Tee - we’ve just gone […] to the Miele Cat and Dog. It’s brilliant, comes with loads of accessories and although we now need to buy dustbags, you get a pack of 4 dustbags and 2 filters for £9.”

BullTerrier_9 loves the Miele Cat and Dog

BullTerrier_9 has a ‘constant battle’ with the hair of two dogs, but they’re winning the war thanks to their Miele Cat and Dog.

Disappointed with their previous model they decided to make a switch, and after scouring through reviews opted for the Cat and Dog,

“The first thing I noticed about this vacuum was its great suction power. You can set the suction to the level you want. There were some rooms I could not use the highest level on as it felt like it was stuck to the carpet.”

This, along with other features of the Miele Cat and Dog, leaves BullTerrier_9 happy to give the vacuum a 5 star rating on Ciao stating that they would ‘highly recommend’.

Davy9449 is looking for a new vacuum…

Davy9449 has turned to his PistonHeads counterparts for advice on solving his conundrum of what vacuum cleaner to buy.

It isn’t long before recommendations for Miele come in and it’s the Cat and Dog and TT5000 that gain the most favour. Zippee says of the latter,

“We’ve got the TT and the wife reports it’s very good! Trouble free in the 3 years we’ve had it and it has loads of suction, not sure how much they cost but it was expensive when we purchased.”

Whereas Wsurfa is a Cat and Dog fan,

“In the last Which? test 8 of the top ten were Miele. Best for carpet was Miele Cat & Dog.”

When replacing a vacuum cleaner…

When replacing a vacuum cleaner it is important to know exactly what you want. At Money Saving Expert this is not a problem for ClaireN75, she’s even compiled a list to make sure the recommendations she gets are in line with what she’s after,

“I need one that:

1. is efficient at getting rid of cat hair on carpets
2. is light and easy to maneouvre
3. is quiet”

Jessilu jumps straight in and offers the Miele Cat and Dog as being suitable for fulfilling her needs. This, as far as ClaireN75 is concerned, is great news seeing that she’s already had good experiences with other appliances from Miele… the full thread is here.

Would you go back to a bag?

This was the problem facing Mamhaf of the mumsnet community. Needing a replacement for her current and faltering vacuum to combat a moulting dog, the advice she’d be given was to go with a Miele Cat & Dog. The thought of returning to bags however was not, for her, a pleasant thought,

“I hate the thought of going back to the hassle of bags, buying them, checking they’re full/empty etc.”

Fellow contributors Mamaloco and Ixia felt otherwise, both championing the bag system. Ixia specifically recommending the Cat & Dog,

“I have a Miele and love it. It tells you when the bag is full, the bag has a wee tab that you pull to seal it - no mess, no hassle, you can just put it in the kitchen bin.”

To see if this was enough to convince Mamhaf to go back to a bag head through to the full thread.
