Pet vacuum cleaner – Anyone got any suggestions?
Boards.IE member Officer Giggles needs a vacuum cleaner that’ll get rid of the pet hair and has turned to the community for advice on the Miele Cat and Dog.
There is discussion taking in various brands of vacuum cleaner and what the experiences of each have been like on the thread. On Miele though Sillybuttons despite not owning the Cat and Dog model recommends it,
“[I] can totally recommend the Miele, I have one and it is brilliant, and mine isn’t the pet one. Suction is great though!”
Also Dolce answers a question on whether the Cat and Dog has a bag or not and also, as an asthma sufferer, suggests the Miele model,
“[…] we have the Miele Cat & Dog Turbo 500 and it has a bag. I’m also asthmatic (yes, with 2 cats!!) and since getting the Miele I haven’t had any problems; it’s brilliant for cleaning down sofa’s and curtains too (3 hose attachments).”
Have you used the Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner?
Miele among the vacuum options on MSE
Avantra has asked,
“We are after a new vac as ours is now used solely for clearing debris in the house refit. We have a large ever-shedding happy lab […] what is the best overall vacuum that can do dog and general dirty polypropylene carpets?”
As ever the Money Saving Expert community has jumped in with advice with Ali-t going for Miele,
“My Miele cat and dog is a godsend and the extra guarantee also includes a pack of replacement bags that cost nearly the same as the guarantee making the 10 year guarantee nearly free!”
Also discussing Miele is CKDesigner – specifically the technology involved in the production of the bags, although he sums up his opinion succinctly,
“No other manufacturer in the world takes domestic vacuum cleaners as seriously as Miele!”
And then finally there is SuisideVW,
“Go Miele everyday.”

Miele Hybrid with Mamma McCann
Mamma McCann is a self confessed ‘clean freak’, so when we offered her the Miele S 4812 Hybrid Vacuum Cleaner to trial she couldn’t resist.

The Hybrid’s battery pack did impress Mamma McCann, even in terms of just not running the risk of tripping over leads. However the practicality of this also meant a clean car and cobweb free balcony. She also tried out the variable suction that was,
“[…] great for us as we have started to give Mini Mc finger foods which often get thrown all over. The suction increase was also great for picking up cat hair and I managed to clean my sofa of all fluff.”
The only downside Mamma Mcann can imagine people having with the cleaner is the weight, but this doesn’t stop her finishing her article with these three words,
“Awesome Miele Hybrid.”

Best vacuum for pet hair and wooden floors?
It is a regular enquiry within the vacuum buying masses – Best vacuum for pet hair and wooden floors?
The investigation is currently at full tilt on Money Saving Expert after MoneySaving Stalwart mentioned that their Golden Retriever ‘likes to leave her hair everywhere’. Needless to say the recommendations have come in think and fast with various brands being mentioned.
In the Miele corner, among others, are Picklepick,
“I also second the Miele cat and dog. I worked as a domestic cleaner a couple of years ago and it was by far the best I ever tried. This was in a house with 4 dogs and 5 cats!”
And Margaret Clark,
“And yet another vote for a Miele C&D – coping very well with 1 long-haired cat, 1 short-haired cat and 1 casting-all-over-the-place black lab. We have wooden floors, rugs and carpets and it does the business with everything.”

Miele vacuum cleaner conversation spans almost two years!
On the Money Saving Expert thread ‘Best vacuum for pet hair?’ the Miele recommendations span a gap of almost two years.
In November of ’08 Suzialwaysbroke wrote,
“I’ve just bought a cheap Miele […] and so far v impressed.”
Then last week, 19 months on, FairyShazza followed up,
“We currently have one cat and the hair gets everywhere so I want something that is going to be able to cope with picking that up and keeping our carpets looking nice and fresh for as long as possible.
I think we are going to get a Miele Cat and Dog as I see them recommended time and time again on threads like these.”
