“Follow your Miele instinct!”

Dishwashers are the order of the day over at Fool.co.uk and more specifically PrincessBouncy whose old Hotpoint machine “has proven to be totally useless” so is “going to consign it to the dump and buy a proper unit”. With a budget of £500, she’s “leaning towards a Miele”, but would consider another brand if it came with personal recommendations.

Fellow fool ahini tells PrincessBouncy to “follow your Miele instinct” and as a Miele owner herself is “very happy with mine after 4 years. It does a really good job, quietly, and I love the tray for cutlery”. Aquarius59 is other Miele advocate who points out that while “they can be more expensive but last for absolutely ages and are considered to be more cost effective than cheaper brands over time. I have been delighted with mine.”

Both Bosch and Siemens aren’t without their fans and are recommended as cheaper alternatives to Miele although Diziet points out that while Bosch and Siemens are roughly the same standard “Miele is several notches up again!”

Miele dishwashers: “The flat cutlery tray is genius”

SparklyGothKat over at the Mumsnet discussion boards has had her dishwasher go belly up. Luckily her insurance covers the cost of a replacement and likes the look of a Smeg machine she’s seen. However for a further £20 on top of her payout she could go for a Miele instead and “wondered what they are like”.

No prizes for guessing that Miele comes out ahead of Smeg from those members who’ve owned both brands. As Winetimeisfinetime demonstrates: “I have had a Smeg dishwasher – a stainless steel one which looked lovely but was not very good at washing the dishes…also had a Bosch which was similarly bad”. “We now have a Miele which we are pleased with…So I would definitely recommend Miele over Smeg”.

Docket too describes the comparison as “Miele are meant to be the best. Smeg are meant to be amongst the worst!” although what ultimately gains most attention is Miele’s flat cutlery tray of which NCbirdy, GrabShellDude and Warthog are all fans. Mme Lindt goes one step further describing it as “genius” while Winetimeisfinetime pops up again to comment on the safety factor of keeping “the sharp stuff out of the way”.  Happy with the responses SparklyGothKat concludes: “Miele it is then!! Can’t wait to get the voucher and go shopping!!!”

Dishwasher recommendations

Over at Money Saving Expert, dishwasher recommendations are the order of the day as littleminx has finally decided to bite the bullet and buy one. Initially put off by the scratches she’s seen on friends glassware she’s changed her mind after talking to her sister-in-law and would like advice on the best one to go for.

Gangstabird was going to buy a Miele, but learned the hard way that inexpensive machines are a false economy and vows to “…never EVER buy a cheap machine again”, while MrsE has been so impressed by Miele’s unique cutlery tray in her friends machine, that she’s earmarked her next machine as a Miele too.

However it’s HC, owner of a G1220, who speaks from experience and “definitely recommends” buying a Miele as they’ve got “a good reputation for quality and durability” also describing the cutlery tray as “brilliant”. She advises littlemix that “even an entry-level [G1022] one will be good” even with the traditional basket.

Brief encounters – Miele G1222SCi dishwasher review

A new review of the Miele G1222SCi dishwasher has popped up on the Review Centre courtesy of sarahgee12 in which she writes the machine washes “beautifully and consistently”.

Giving the dishwasher an overall score of 9 out of 10, she notes that it’s easy to both set up and use, plus the cutlery tray is a “god send”. She’s also impressed by the low noise levels plus the versatility in which the trays and removable sections for pans can be used.

Sarahgee12 concludes that it can be tough buying expensive appliances nowadays, but the Miele G1222SCi “is well worth it”. Head on over to read the full review.

The Miele cutlery tray

One of the most interesting features of the Miele dishwasher range is the unique cutlery tray which comes as standard across most of the models.

We’ve briefly touched on this feature previously on Forever Better in our posts ‘Recommend me a dishwasher’ in which Windym of the Money Saving Expert Forum describes it as “cleans beautifully…” and gives “…extra space on the bottom rack” and ‘Which is the most energy efficient dishwasher?’ where MrsE and Kwatt both like the feature as they say takes up less space than the traditional basket. And more recently Anna, a member of the Jamie Oliver Forums thinks so too and in the briefest of posts calls it “brilliant”.

Blogger Melissa C. Morris has been using both the cutlery tray and the more traditional basket recently on two different Miele models and has posted pictures of them in action. Check them out.
