Eddie Slovik recommends a Miele washing machine

At the Overclockers forum Hux has asked for someone to ‘spec him a washing machine.

The community has helped out offering much advice – notably Danny Mac who succinctly suggests that you should always buy German. However it is Eddie Slovik who recommends a Miele washing machine,

“Miele are the absolute top boys […]”

Bear also puts in a word for Miele, specifically the warranties on offer on the higher end models,

“Miele started around £400 when we were looking. We made sure we got one over £650 because they were offering 10 years manufacturers warranty with them.”

Miele appliances praised on Boards.IE

Miele appliances are held in high regard by Crossmolinalad, something he has expressed on Boards.IE.

The thread was started by Aldente who is looking to invest in an induction hob and a wall-mounted extractor. They are keen to hear of any recommendations or experiences of various brands to help inform their choice. They do express a preference for German appliances, but are aware that they are expensive. Crossmolinalad offers the following advice,

“Always bought everything Miele = expensive, but washing machine is now 15 years old and still working without ever needing a repair. Bought kitchen stuff two years ago in Germany, rented a van drove to Germany and bought the lot there.”

Road-trip! It might be a little extreme for most, Aldente included, but the advice was still well received. If you want to get involved the full thread is here.

OutdoorsMagic on washing machines

OutdoorsMagic, a forum designed to bring outdoor enthusiasts together, has been discussing washing machines. It all began when Metric Kate asked about replacing her old machine.

There are a couple of pages worth of responses and amongst them is support for a variety of brands including Miele. The first contributor to bring them up is Mr Sworld, an owner of a Miele fridge/freezer, dishwasher and vacuum,

“Splash the cash and buy a Miele, still a family owned company, German engineering and they last forever! They will give you 20 year guarantees!”

His recommendation is echoed by user david creighton, and Colm ab Ifan cites the Which? surveys as his reason for choosing Miele. Where as rob s puts in rather plain English,

“Go Miele they are the mutt’s nuts, my parents is over 10 years old, in a hard water area and going strong. At Uni one of my house mates brought along a 20 year old one and it lasted the 2 years of abuse we gave it, we own one and it’s great.”

MSE contributors pick their Top Ten

At Money Saving Expert (MSE) Yorkie1980 has asked his fellow contributors what brands they feel make up the top 10 when it comes to appliances.

“I was hoping some kitchen experts could provide a list of the best (in your opinion of course) kitchen appliances in terms of quality, lifespan and guarantee.”

Both Converse and Clockworks return verdicts with Miele near the top, stating that the brand has a good reputation. Ormus also goes down the same line adding to the thread,

“At the top end the German names are very good.”

Majjie goes all out placing Miele at the top of the list, a list which hasn’t been kept to 10, something which is justified by the similarities between some brands. If you’d like to read the thoughts of the other contributions to the top 10 brands making appliances click through to MSE.

The future of energy…

At the SmartEnergyServices (SES) blog there has been discussion, as you’d expect, on all things about energy efficiency.

It is the Germans leading the way according to SES’s latest post,

“From huge smart grid projects and massive wind and solar farms to smaller micro-generation projects at the home to new appliances Germany is taking energy efficiency very seriously.”

Amongst the discussion is a mention of Miele as they pave the way with other German manufacturers,

“Appliance maker Miele, among others, is developing washing machines that provide energy consumption information and the ability to be controlled remotely.”

Here’s to the beginnings of a clean energy evolution…
