BBC Summer Good Food Show with Miele
Bright and early on Saturday morning, the forever better team headed up to the NEC in Birmingham for the BBC Summer Good Food Show.
We invited along seven food loving bloggers to join us and take part in the day’s activities, which included a live invention test with Masterchef’s John and Gregg, a 30 minute cook along with Miele appliances and a slap up meal in the Masterchef restaurant.
Jo from Jo’s Kitchen has already written a great post about her time at the Good Food Show, and in particular her attempt at the invention test:
“I was very nervous and excited about taking part in both but fortunately I was not alone. I was joined by my friend James from Eat The Midlands, and fellow bloggers Kavey, Meemalee , Bron and Ailbhe. We were given basic store cupboard items and a bag containing secret fresh ingredients that were not revealed to us until two minutes before we went on stage”.

MiMi from Meemalee’s Kitchen also shares her experience of cooking live on stage during the cook along with Barney Desmazery, food editor of BBC Good Food Magazine:
“It was frantic fun having to keep up with Barney, even if I did get sabotaged (a pan that was meant to be cold had been placed on an active hotplate so I set fire to some toffees. I love making a tit of myself in public, I do).
I did like getting to use the swanky Miele appliances again – my dream kitchen would be kitted out with Miele stuff especially that magic fridge freezer.”

All in all we had a great day of cooking, eating rubbing shoulders with all the Masterchef winners… and more eating. Keep checking back for more updates and recipes from the day created by our fearless foodies.
The Recipe: Shell Baked Scallops
We recently featured the adventures of Jan at the Good Food Show and her work creating Shell Baked Scallops. Taking part in this endeavour with Jan was the Gourmet Chick,
“Part of the day included the opportunity to cook with Martin Blunos, previously the chef at two Michelin starred Lettonie in Bristol. The part I wasn’t aware of when I signed up was that this cooking would take part on stage… in front of a crowd. Cue extreme nerves.”

The Gourmet Chick needn’t have worried, overcoming her anxiety and creating an excellent seafood dish (even if the veg was a little more ‘rustic’ than intended). She has posted the recipe for the Shell Baked Scallops so anyone fancying giving it a go can,
“This is not an every day recipe but a real winner when you are out to impress.”
Out to impress over the festive period? Then this dish could be what you’ve been waiting for. Everything you need to know to create the Shell Baked Scallops is through the link.
My Cooking Hut’s Invention Test!
ForeverBetter has been full of Good Food Show goodness recently, and next in line is My Cooking Hut who took on the Invention test when the event was in the capital,
“It has been a great experience this time round going to BBC Good Food Show in London. It was different and very interesting as one of the highlights was the MasterChef Live Invention Test, which I took part in!”

If you read yesterdays post on Anne’s participation in the competition you’ll know the format, and that Masterchef winners Steve Groves and Mat Follas were mentoring the contesting chefs. Despite nerves My Cooking Hut turned her bag of ingredients into citrus grilled prawns served with mint and raisin couscous – sounds delicious. The cooking was done on a Miele hob and left her wanting one in her own kitchen.
My Cooking Hut describes the trip to the show as a ‘great outing’, especially meeting the TV chefs. And as for the frenzy of Invention Test,
“Even though I wasn’t one of the winners […], I still think the experience of cooking in the public in 30 minutes was something that I will never forget!”
Miele Good Food Show – and this time there’s wine!
Another day, another host of interesting posts delivered about the recent Miele-sponsored adventure at The Good Food show – from wine samples by the bucketload to hob-nobbing with celebrity chefs, causing no end of jealousy to those who weren’t there: blog commenters and this correspondent alike!
Sylvie from A Pot of Tea and a Biscuit was particularly impressed with the free samples, as well as the Miele products on display “We [went] for an introduction to a range of fantastic Miele appliances, which left me wanting a new fridge, a new cooker and a steam oven”. Naomi from Milk for the Morning Cake was particularly impressed with the producer’s village “Like a breath of fresh air, the real food shone with authenticity”.
Jan from What do I Want to Cook Today was impressed with the “absolutely fantastic range of Miele kitchen appliances. Miele steam ovens are just amazing – we all wanted one”. She enjoyed the wine samples too, as long as she never drunk more than a glass of course!
More fun at the Good Food Show with Miele
Two further updates from the intrepid team of bloggers who attended The Good Food Show with Miele at the weekend, who both seemed to have a lovely time. ‘Best of all’ for Anne from Anne’s Kitchen blog “though I will admit I was slightly terrified leading up to it, was taking part in the Miele Cookery Experience, which was new to the BBC Good Food Show this year.”
Sunita meanwhile has crafted a particularly visual treat for her readers, with a collection of photographs so spectacular that it provoked one reader to claim “it’s like dying and going to heaven and living the life I’ve always wanted to”. For a tour of the event within her images, you should really go and take a look.
