Comparing Miele models is a tough old task

“I want to buy a Miele cylinder vacuum cleaner and there are loads of different models at different prices on the John Lewis website but not much information about the actual difference between them” frets bran on mumsnet.com, and obviously keen to purchase a Miele, asks her fellow mothers for any advice.

Amid discussion about optional turbo brushes that AMumInScotland finds “much more effective at getting long hairs up” and information from CarGirl that “on the more expensive models there is a ‘suckiness’ control where you hold the tube bit” – the thread is full of information.

Contribute over here, or why not take a look at the Miele website bran? There is even a handy ‘compare’ function to directly match the spec of each one.

Brief encounters – Miele S5260 vacuum cleaner review

“This machine is incredible – we cannot use it on its full power as it pulls up our carpet!”. So opens pingtiao’s review of the Miele S5260 over at Dooyoo.

Awarding the S5260 4/5 stars, pingtiao bought it to replace an old vacuum, after being “assured by the staff in John Lewis that it is better than a Dyson. We have not been disappointed at all.”

Describing the vacuum as “sturdily built”, but “a bit heavier than some other similar machines I have used”, the only short-coming he’s identified “is that the cleaning pole (not sure what they are called- the ridgid bit on the end) is quite short, and so I as a fairly tall man have to stoop when using it.”

Nethertheless, pingtiao heartily recommends the S5260 concluding his summary with it’s an “excellent vacuum cleaner.”

Help with washing machine reviews

There are few household panics worse than the realisation that you need to buy a new washing machine and that’s the problem confronting mandragora over at the Money Saving Expert forum. Faced with the prospect of going “to work in a ballgown”, she’s asked her fellow money savers for suggestions for “a real gem of a machine”.

While Bosch, Siemens and Whirlpool all have their advocates, it’s Miele owner dazzer68, who not only has a washing machine which he describes as “…brilliant. quiet easy to use and robust”, but also owns a dishwasher, coffee machine” and “will be changing the tumble dryer when that goes too. excellent build and quality” who gives the first vote for Miele. Imho too, gives another vote thus: “More expensive than most other washing machines but they never break down”, while mersey recently “bought a Miele Paragon plus from John Lewis six weeks ago, cost a arm and a leg, fantastic machine, with free delivery and free ten year warranty”

However, it’s Rosekitten who sums up Miele’s reputation best of all: “[It] took me a long time to realise that some people buy one machine and never buy another. The ones that do this all own Miele washers.”

Dishwasher recommendations

Over at Money Saving Expert, dishwasher recommendations are the order of the day as littleminx has finally decided to bite the bullet and buy one. Initially put off by the scratches she’s seen on friends glassware she’s changed her mind after talking to her sister-in-law and would like advice on the best one to go for.

Gangstabird was going to buy a Miele, but learned the hard way that inexpensive machines are a false economy and vows to “…never EVER buy a cheap machine again”, while MrsE has been so impressed by Miele’s unique cutlery tray in her friends machine, that she’s earmarked her next machine as a Miele too.

However it’s HC, owner of a G1220, who speaks from experience and “definitely recommends” buying a Miele as they’ve got “a good reputation for quality and durability” also describing the cutlery tray as “brilliant”. She advises littlemix that “even an entry-level [G1022] one will be good” even with the traditional basket.

Shake, rattle and roll

Diyiamnot is suffering from the shakes. Not personally mind you, but that of his kitchen floor after the installation of a new washing machine to crown his new kitchen. And it’s not just the vibrations that are driving him crazy, it’s the noise too.

Concerned that all the recent hardwork is going to fall down around his ears, he’s turned to the gurus at the DIYnot Forum for advice. After suggestions of making sure to remove the shipping bolts – which he’s done – attention turns towards the build quality of washing machines. While in diyiamnot’s case he’s happy with his new AEG washer, alanbrown1607 who also bought an AEG found it “…literally shook the house to pieces [which an] engineer tried in vain to cure…”. He ultimately “…paid a little extra for a lower spec Miele, much better machine although still some vibration at full steam”.

If you’ve got a tale to tell about a particularly mobile washing machine or can cure diyimanot’s problem, jump over to the forum and get involved.
