Pet vacuum cleaner – Anyone got any suggestions?
Boards.IE member Officer Giggles needs a vacuum cleaner that’ll get rid of the pet hair and has turned to the community for advice on the Miele Cat and Dog.
There is discussion taking in various brands of vacuum cleaner and what the experiences of each have been like on the thread. On Miele though Sillybuttons despite not owning the Cat and Dog model recommends it,
“[I] can totally recommend the Miele, I have one and it is brilliant, and mine isn’t the pet one. Suction is great though!”
Also Dolce answers a question on whether the Cat and Dog has a bag or not and also, as an asthma sufferer, suggests the Miele model,
“[…] we have the Miele Cat & Dog Turbo 500 and it has a bag. I’m also asthmatic (yes, with 2 cats!!) and since getting the Miele I haven’t had any problems; it’s brilliant for cleaning down sofa’s and curtains too (3 hose attachments).”
Have you used the Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner?
DogPages.org are talking vacuum cleaners
On the forums of DogPages.org member pbr is looking for help on choosing a vacuum cleaner,
“I just need a recommendation for a bagless cylinder reasonably lightweight vacuum cleaner for mainly wooden floors but with some carpet & rugs.”
Despite the request for bagless a few members have advised not being too hasty dismissing the alternative, especially when it comes to the Miele Cat and Dog. Jazzlet praises its ability to deal with laminate,
“I have to say that I rarely vacuum the laminate as it’s quicker to whip round with a broom, but it does a great job when I do. And it picks up the difficult combination of long human hair and short dog hair from the carpets with no trouble.”
When it comes to the bag issue mcclurgs suggests it isn’t as bigger problem as one may think,
“I am a massive Miele Cat and Dog fan, yep it comes with bags but the job it does is unbelievable. I have 3 dogs and empty the bag maybe once a month.”
And on page two of the thread Janice, who believes her Miele Cat and Dog upright cleaner is the best she’s ever owned, thinks bags are an advantage,
“It’s not bagless, but having the bag is a bonus in my opinion … bagless cleaners are very messy, and spew dust everywhere when you empty them. Everything that goes into the Miele dust bag stays there, 100 per cent.”
Have you got a preference when it comes to bag or bagless? A tip for battling dog hair? Or an opinion on the above? Let us know in the comments…
Specific vacuum cleaners for pet hair
Teacheranmum is in need of a new vacuum cleaner on the moneysavingexpert.com forum, and wonders if those “specific pet ones are any good”. Especially when it comes to getting all the hair up from laminates and rugs.
Divadee is quick to respond, suggesting “if you can afford it go for the Miele Cat and Dog. I am in the process of saving for one after borrowing my friend’s one. Fantastic machines and lasts years an years”. Takoda agrees, suggesting “another vote for Miele Cat and Dog here. Outstanding cleaner.”

Brief encounters – Miele Cat & Dog TT5000 vacuum cleaner review
The Miele Cat & Dog is something of a perennial favourite among vacuum cleaner buyers and although not everyone who buys one has the inclination to post their thoughts online, many do. AWB1 being a case in point.
Having just received a new TT5000 to replace her old Bosch Formula, a quick once-round-the-house was enough to convince her that she’d made the right choice and prompted her to write a quick review over at the Review Centre straight away.
Agreeing with the concensus of other Miele reviewers that the “suction power is amazing”, she adds that with four cats and a dog her “carpets look really clean”. She finds the Cat & Dog “slightly heavier than the Bosch” and with only one carrying handle on the Miele is something she feels she’s got to get use to, but all in all she’s very impressed, concluding her write-up with the recommendation: “it’s a good vacuum and if you have the money spare, then invest in one”.

Is Miele the answer for cat and dog hair across the land?
Oh, the difficulties of hairy beasts (aka pets) tramping about the home, shedding at the pace of an HGV through an oilslick. Well, it’s all been a little bit too much for Nikkei over on the Money Saving Expert forum, who asks “which would be the best comparison [vacuum]. We do have a smaller Dyson but it doesn’t do very well with animal hair so it has to go before I go insane.”
And the advice was not long in coming, with penrhyn quick to offer up this nugget of information within the hour – “I would recommend a Miele TT5000 Cat & Dog, not cheap but is head and shoulders better than the old Dyson DC05 that I’ve pensioned off”, while shudd1967 thinks they should have done the same: “I have to say, wish I had waited and saved a bit more and bought the Miele – friend of mine has one and is far better than the Sebo.”
Jay11 and skintlass concur too, the former suggesting “Another vote for the Miele, great at picking up hair, dirt, easy and light to use, and so tough and reliable. Mine has been bashed around by a less than careful OH [other half], had bits knocked off, dropped and generally had a rough ride, but still works brilliantly”, while the latter says “Another Miele fan here”.
We imagine there’s plenty more advice to come so do keep an eye on the thread, but until then, remember these wise words from MKwife “Miele Cat and Dog all the way!!!!!!!”
