What vacuum? – A conversation on PistonHeads…

What vacuum? It’s a question asked on the motoring forum PistonHeads by BMWBen who has a cleaner that no longer sucks and is ‘kinda noisy’, thus it’s time to replace it.

The major requirement is that the new vacuum needs to be around the £100 mark. While this would usually discount the Miele option, it isn’t actually the case. After Kambites offers the Miele option,

“We have a Miele one which seems to work. If you put it on full power, it does pick up rugs and things and it’s impressively quiet.”

And NewNameNeeded highlights the price issue,

“Find […] a Miele for his budget of £100 and I’ll take half a dozen off your hands!!! (but another vote for the Miele Cat & Dog if you double your budget!”

It is Arese who brings the second hand option to the table,

“I think our Miele wasn’t much over £100 from Ebay. I can’t get on Ebay from here, but it might be worth a look.”

Would you buy second hand? Juastayellowbadge sees that some might be put off by second hand. However his response to that is succinct,

“Miele. 2nd hand won’t matter, they last forever.”

UK Whitegoods talk kitchen refit…

Johelian is having a kitchen refit and has leapt onto the UK Whitegoods forum to ask for advice. Seeing as they intend to upgrade all their appliances the question is should they go with their first choice of Miele products despite the price?

Don, a UK Whitegoods moderater has responded with the following,

“Miele have a good reputation and track record for producing top quality appliances, hence why washing machines start around the £700 mark. Guarantees can range from five years to ten depending on appliance purchased.

The real issues are the extremely high price of spare parts and the lack of knowledge available to the service sector unless you are a Miele service agent of course.”

Do you agree with Don, would you recommend Miele? Leave your comments below. Or why not join in the UK Whitegoods thread.

Miele S381 – for your consideration…

At dooyoo Nar2 has reviewed the S381, offering the model as one of the cheaper ways to own a Miele.

Miele S381

The review is exceptionally detailed going into all aspects of the machine, covering price, performance, design and build quality. When it comes to performance, for Nar2, it’s about picking up the fiddly dirt,

“Threads and hair are always the worst tests for suction only floor heads, but the Miele S381 picks them up with ease only requiring one to two passes for difficult to remove fluff.”

Overall Nar2 sees the Miele S381 as a great value vacuum that doesn’t compromise on performance. To read all her thoughts follow the link.

Miele washing machines: price versus quality?

Discussion a-plenty on the UK DIY Google Group about Miele, as the age old price vs. quality argument has reared its head. Miele owner Tim S argues that in ‘today’s throw away society’ “this is definitely a Miele moment”, whilst David suggests that Miele would be top of his ‘looking’ list.

Meanwhile, although Huge has had problems with his machine after not cleaning it for 8 years, he’s still impressed because… “(i) the front opens on a hinge, so it doesn’t need to be removed from under the countertop, or tipped up, (ii) that it can be run with the front open, so faults can be seen happening & (iii) there’s a wiring diagram clipped on the front of the machine!”

Lyrrad searching for ‘hot UK’ Miele deals – he thinks he’s found them

Lyrradhas been doing some research on where to find the best deals on the Miele G1152SC dishwasher in Polaris White, and has come up with enough information for davilown to brand his work as an “excellent post -hot!” on hotukdeals.com.

Guilbert53 chimes in “Whenever Which magazine do a review of ‘white goods’ (washing machines, dishwashers etc) then Miele always come out on top”. Krjgreen added that he “was so impressed with the washing machine from them [that he] will always buy Miele from now on” leaving Broxy to wrap it up. “Heat and rep, great price for a quality appliance.”
