Miele among the vacuum options on MSE

Avantra has asked,

“We are after a new vac as ours is now used solely for clearing debris in the house refit. We have a large ever-shedding happy lab […] what is the best overall vacuum that can do dog and general dirty polypropylene carpets?”

As ever the Money Saving Expert community has jumped in with advice with Ali-t going for Miele,

“My Miele cat and dog is a godsend and the extra guarantee also includes a pack of replacement bags that cost nearly the same as the guarantee making the 10 year guarantee nearly free!”

Also discussing Miele is CKDesigner – specifically the technology involved in the production of the bags, although he sums up his opinion succinctly,

“No other manufacturer in the world takes domestic vacuum cleaners as seriously as Miele!”

And then finally there is SuisideVW,

“Go Miele everyday.”

Eurocucina with Miele

“In the hustle and bustle of Design Week in Milan 2010 I was lucky enough to attend Eurocucina with the brilliant folks at Miele.”

The words of Inspirational Geek Gary Thornton (@gthornton101), who spent last week hanging out with Miele investigating the Eurocucina exhibition, which gave an insight into Future Technologies for the Kitchen (FTK). As explained by Gary in his post on the event not everything on display is actually that fanciful when it comes to seeing it in a kitchen near you – especially where Miele is concerned.

As far as the future of kitchens goes Gary came to two conclusions fairly quickly,

“We are most defiinitely a touch screen generation [and] secondly, people love colour change LEDs.”

While these arguably could be seen as unnecessary, Gary thinks the opposite and that the implementation of details like this is where the value lies,

“Touch screen interfaces adorn a whole host of gadgets and appliances, with Miele shining as a standout example of this. Intuitive, clean, clear and functional interfaces add fantastic usability to many of their products, not just touch screen for touch screen’s sake, which notably seemed to overcomplicate things and add unnecessary clutter to some of their competitors.”

Gary’s post doesn’t just focus on Miele though, with plenty of products demonstrating cutting edge tech that had him impressed. And even outside FTK there was more than he could get to see in terms of what we can expect to see in the way design trends for the near future.

I have to say these chairs that remind me of a Rubik’s cube look particularly enticing.

There is loads more akin to this in the full post at Inspirational Geek, and all that wouldn’t squeeze in there Gary has posted on his Flickr, so be sure to check in there.

Cherrapeño visits Miele… in Germany!

Hearing that she’d been invited to Germany by Miele there was excitement,

“When you get an email asking if you would like to go to Germany, courtesy of Miele – the high quality domestic appliances and commercial equipment company, don’t jump up & down and scream like a crazy person…. take a few deep breaths and calmly hit the send button with the words ‘YES PLEASE’!! (Then you can scream with delight!)”

And thusly Cherrapeño was aboard a flight to Germany with Dustfluffgrit and Machines That Go Bing. In the post there are plenty of shots of all that was consumed on the trip in-between visits to the Miele museum, their factory and the Professional showroom. At the latter,

“there was much lusting over the household products and for me, it was the kitchen appliances!”

One such appliance was the new combination steam oven – the Miele DGC 5080 XL. This features in a separate post on one of Cherrapeño’s highlights of the trip, the active cooking evening. Along wth details on the oven it is full to the brim of glorious photos of the results of some ‘collaborative’ culinary efforts,

“We were all given a different course to make and I assigned myself to
dessert (!!!) along with Jack from Dustfluffgrit. We made an admirable pair – me wafting around with camera in hand, and Jack doing all the hard work (sorry Jack!)”

Going back to the tour, there was even a chance for the visitors to see the CAVE. Far more sophisticated than it sounds the CAVE is a cutting edge design software and stands for ‘Computer Aided Virtual Environment’. This allowed Cherrapeño the ‘very weird’ sensation of being able to put her head in a washing machine that wasn’t actually there…

If you want to investigate fully the trip and what Cherrapeño saw and ate then be sure to have a read through her blog entries Cherrapeño’s visits Miele in Germany and Active Cooking Evening. And, if you fancy having a go at creating the quark-mascarpone-soufflé dessert pictured above, the details are all included too…
