Recipe: St. Patrick’s Day goodness

Clover

Next week, on the 17th of March, the world will turn a little bit green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. As the Miele living website states, Ireland might only have a population of 6 million, but that doesn’t stop the globe getting involved when it comes to celebrating the day,

“The lively parades that we now associate with St Patrick’s Day began in America in 1762 and have flourished ever since as immigrants celebrate their Irish identity and their roots in the old country. Everything goes green for the occasion, including clothes, beer, the fountains in London’s Trafalgar Square and in Chicago, for the last forty years, they have even dyed the Chicago River green!”

What are doing for St Patrick’s Day? If you’re intending to cook why not try the traditional bacon and cabbage with champ. It might not sound like much of a culinary treat, but that isn’t the case. It’s superb and if you fancy giving it a go there is a recipe on the Miele Living site to help you out.

Plus, if you want a little extra Ireland with your meal, then look no further than a cup of Irish Coffee… Be sure to let us know how you get on.

Kitchen infidelity and Bailey’s Chocolate Cheesecake at the experience centre

A couple more posts on the Miele St. Patricks day extravaganza, which you may have read about last week here and here. Firstly – and direct from Almanzo’s Belly comes the tale of kitchen infidelity – never has she “been in a kitchen which felt so scientific and never have I suspected that I was less intelligent than an oven”.

Meanwhile, the Princess and the Recipe had her mind on other things, most notably “her favourite dish of the day – the Bailey’s chocolate cheesecake. It’s too good to eat just one day a year!” Go take a look over here.

The Cycling Cook’s antics at the Miele Experience Centre

I promised you more on the St. Patricks Day event yesterday, and lo and behold, Sam AKA ‘Antics of a Cycling Cook’ has delivered, providing a rich post over on his blog – detailing the full experience of the day.

He takes up the story…“We were going to Miele’s experience centre, an amazing place where potential customers can get hands on with Miele appliances to test them for themselves”. He was also delighted with “the tour around the centre where [he] was thrilled to discover Miele used to make bikes, very appropriate [he] thought for The Cycling Cook!”

He continues “I was really impressed with all the Miele kitchen appliances we tried, but there were two that particularly stood out. The first being the combination microwave/conventional oven which could roast a whole raw chicken in an amazing 35 minutes whilst keeping the skin crisp and golden. The other was an oven that heats from the base and uses a fan, removing the need to blind bake pastry.”

To find out what culinary masterpieces Sam created, and why the journey home almost spelled disaster, pop over and read his entertaining, post.

St. Patrick’s Day cooking at the Miele Experience Centre

“I’ve been invited by the good people at the Miele Experience Centre to go and try out some of their gadgetry and learn how to rustle up some quality Irish fayre in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day” said Alex of Just Cook It – and so he did, yesterday at the Miele Experience Centre.

By all accounts the day was quite the success, despite one of the foreverbetter.com contingent using table instead of teaspoons – and as Alex said on Twitter “Have just cooked much food at Miele, about to eat.”

Alexthepink was clearly impressed too suggesting “I want a Miele bbq grill for my kitchen. In fact I think I need a whole new kitchen…” and took a number of photographs to show what said equipment had helped her create. “Seriously sold on Miele. They even have a dishwasher that opens its own door when it’s finished!”

More updates as they come in.
