Miele S7 – the Desperate Housewives Bree of vacuum cleaners

As you may know – foreverbetter.co.uk currently have a Miele S7 traversing the country clocking up the miles as it’s tested by social media types who have kindly agreed to put it through its paces. Its just arrived at the-linen-cupboard.blogspot.com to much excitement it would seem, “it feels like I’ve just been handed the keys of an Aston Martin and told to test drive it… scary!”

And she’s all ready to go… “I shall be testing this Aston Martin of a vacuum cleaner alongside my trusty, dusty VAX and I’ll keep you posted. I’ve (purposefully) not been vacuuming our rug downstairs for the past week – gross I know, but I need to do this properly.” Keep an eye on the blog, and submit your suggestions if you have any ideas.

New vacuum wanted: Preferably of the bagged variety

Over at the Mumsnet discussion forums eltham knows what she wants and that’s a new vacuum, so she’s given the members of the community a fairly open brief as long as it’s of the bagged variety.

SammyC, Andthentherewerethree and HeadFairy all lead the conversation with their recommendations for Henry as it “really gets rid of cat hairs!” a statement that luvlydECMOrations counters with a vote for the Miele and “we have the cat and dog version and its great”. Snoringnightmare says she can’t vouch for a Henry, but as a former Dyson owner that “weren’t that great” advocates “Miele all the way from now on”.

However it’s SleighGirl who rounds off the discussion having just treated herself to “a limited edition special offer one today “Red Pearl” for £170 which include a 5 year guarantee” and thinks “Miele are great”.

Wanted: “A decent vacuum that will last a while”

So they may tend to be more interested in Dr. Who and Torchwood normally, but talk has turned to ‘decent vacuum cleaners’ on Digital Spy – and by god it’s a passionate thread! Predictably sparking the age old ‘to Dyson, or not to Dyson’ predicament – Miele fans will be pleased to note the rather positive response that they have been receiving though…

Razortongue for one lives up to his pseudonym launching quite the attack on one popular brand of vacuum – but is far more complementary of Miele, claiming “I’ve had a Miele S571 for about 4 years now and it’s awesome for suction. Quite possibly one of the best things I’ve ever bought.” Meanwhile, agentz is pleased to agree “Another vote for Miele here – we bought one (one of the ones with the HEPA filter) a few years ago and it’s great, copes admirably with the hair from two cats and a bloody great big German Shepherd, as well as the mess from two young kids.” Sounds like quite a vacuum….

New house + more carpet = new vacuum

KALIB’R from Overclockers UK is another who’s bucked the housing market downturn and is about to move into a new house. As a cat owner he wants a vacuum for “sucking up them darn cat hairs” and has asked for recommendations for the best machine for the job.

While Electrolux, Panasonic and Henry’s all have their fair share of fans, fellow cat owner footman suggests Miele as “…anything that picks up our cats hair must be good!”, Westyfield2 recommends the S4581 he bought, while collisster gives the Cat & Dog the thumbs-up. KALIB’R tempted by the “fetching shade of red” says he’ll “look into a Miele Cat & Dog” to which footman replies “you wont regret it, its the best we’ve had”.

Miele Cat & Dog: Good for pet hair?

Monty Burns is having problems over at AV Forums. His Dyson DC08 Animal “has given up the ghost” and is now “useless” at cleaning up the family’s pet hair. He’d like recommendations for a new vacuum cleaner and specifies that he doesn’t want another Dyson as the previous one lasted “less than a year”.

After some discussion on whether the original vacuum really is broken or whether a new filter and/or brush will fix the problem, philb strongly recommends the Miele Cat and Dog stating that it’s “awesome” and that there’s “not one hair left from our pixie!” andyrj1 agrees, mentioning that he once had a Dyson and “did not like it” so replaced it with a Cat and Dog instead and finds it “excellent with the dog hairs”.

If you’ve had any Miele Cat and Dog experience why not let Monty know? You can find the full thread here.
